I’m using MediaWiki 1.35 with the VisualEditor plugin, and after unsuccessfully trying to find the solution to to add the code block option to my list of things I can insert in my Wiki, I came across a solution.
If you type “<pre” the visual editor will assume you’re trying to start a preformatted text box and offer you a box a paste all your code into!
